Project Story
Every quarter, Reebok International holds a private sale event where all their employees try to get as many of their friends and family to purchase Reebok products using a special coupon that has their “Reebok Employee ID#” printed on it. The Employee ID# that ultimately produces the most sales during the promotional event wins a prize. After learning about all that goes into these events, Embarc built an online vehicle for distributing and tracking the coupons and to developed a viral marketing system that would significantly increases sales and saves on printing costs. Objectives The system eliminated having to write the Employee ID# on thousands of printed coupons, by hand. Employees would no longer run out of printed coupons, as there’s no limit to the amount of emails an employee could distribute. Printed coupons needed to be physically handed to the recipients, while the new email system easily reaches people living in all parts of the country. The online system encourages recipients to forward the coupon to anyone in their address book, which quickly multiplies the number of coupons being distributed with the respective employee ID#’s. Results- Reebok can now reach an unlimited number of people and distribute a record number of coupons in a very short time frame.
- Recipients see that the emails are coming from “someone they know” and 9 times out of 10, they forward it on to their friends. Additionally, they often join the “Email Club” which consistently brings thousands of new subscribers into Reebok’s database.
- Sales increased from 4 million to 5 million. Just by virtue of the number of coupons being circulated, Reebok is experiencing record sales during promotions where the new system is employed.
